Commercialization and deployment of advanced water technologies to address critical water challenges
Pilot Opportunity
2025 Innovation Challenge
The Water Innovation Hub-launched by ClimateHaven in collaboration with the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA) is seeking innovative, field-ready technologies for a paid pilot program addressing urgent water infrastructure challenges. We’re offering a pilot opportunity with $30,000 in non-dilutive funding, access to RWA infrastructure and operational data, and strategic support from ClimateHaven’s expert network.
Innovation challenge
FOCUS AREAS
Lead Pipe Detection
Non-invasive methods to identify lead, copper, and galvanized service lines without excavation, helping utilities meet EPA mandates for lead service line replacement
Inspection Drones
Technologies for in-pipe, in-tank, and aerial solutions for infrastructure monitoring to detect leaks or corrosion, which may also include submerged drones and aerial systems that monitor exterior assets
Rapid Water Quality Testing
Field-deployable tools for real-time detection of contaminants such as total organic carbon, manganese, and microbial indicators allowing utilities to respond quickly to operational events
The Hub provides startups with access to piloting infrastructure to de-risk technologies allowing for rapid validation and refinement.
Key Insights and Data
By compiling critical insights, success metrics, and data from pilot results, the Hub ensures that emerging technologies are backed by real-world performance data.

Are there any location requirements for applicants? Can international startups apply?
Yes. Companies can be based anywhere globally. However, selected startups must be able to deploy their technology at the Regional Water Authority (RWA) site in New Haven, CT. While there is no long-term relocation requirement, teams should expect to have an on-the-ground presence during the active pilot period to support deployment, data collection, and collaboration with utility staff. Are there any location requirements for applicants? Should I still apply if my technology doesn’t fully fit the current innovation themes?
If your solution addresses water infrastructure challenges but doesn’t directly fit one of this year’s themes, we encourage you to still submit an Expression of Interest form. ClimateHaven and our partners are planning future pilot cycles that may better align with your technology. Early engagement helps us build a pipeline of promising companies for upcoming opportunities.
What happens after I submit my application?
After you submit your full application, our review panel—comprised of technical experts, utility leaders, and industry investors—will evaluate submissions based on technical readiness, pilot applicability, and market potential. Semi-finalists will be notified and invited to participate in follow-up interviews. We anticipate notifying semi-finalists in the second week of August, with final selections made shortly thereafter.
What stage of technology readiness are you looking for?
We are seeking solutions that are at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5 or higher— which means you should have a working prototype that has been tested in relevant environments and is ready for real-world pilot deployment.
Is there any cost to participate? Will the pilot funding cover expenses?
Selected companies will receive non-dilutive pilot funding of $30,000 to help offset costs associated with deploying and supporting the pilot. This funding is provided as a grant and does not require equity or IP commitments.
What types of partners will I work with during the pilot?
Startups will collaborate directly with RWA operational staff, ClimateHaven’s expert advisory network, and participating industry partners. In addition to technical validation, startups will receive guidance on commercialization, data analytics, and regulatory navigation throughout the pilot.
Will I retain rights to my IP and data?
Yes. Startups retain full ownership of their IP. Data-sharing agreements will be developed collaboratively for pilot evaluation purposes, with a focus on protecting proprietary technology while enabling hub partners to assess validity and feasibility.
